Our Favorite Headphones, Speakers, Water Guns and More [Bestmodo]

Image
Here come the dog days. Time to get the heck outta town and do as little as possible. This month we found the speaker you'll use to pump up the jams at the beach, the water gun you'll use to cool off, and the headphones you'll listen to on the way there. When it comes to $200 pairs of cans, there aren't many that can top the Harman Kardon CLs. Are there better sounding headphones out there? Apple had three favorite typefaces: Myriad, Lucida Grande and Helvetica Neue. Now there's a new favorite: Avenir . It has appeared simultaneously OS X Mountain Lion and iOS 6—which means you will see it featured in the next iPhone. It was so iconic that long-time Apple users protested when the company abandoned it. Myriad is an Adobe typeface, created by Robert Slimbach and Carol Twombly. You can find it in every single Apple product box, advertising and marketing material, even its own logotype. Some fonts of the Myriad typeface are included in OS X, but it is complet...

Image
Jul 30, 2012 5:40 PM   In New York, most of us strap-hangers have a love/hate relationship with the subway. It's either totally reliable or totally screwed. You're either right on time or squinting down the tunnel wondering where the train is. And you forget what a wonderful thing public transit can be. These awesome wordless maps from LinePosters have the power to remind you of that. With snaking lines and a simple clean two-toned design, they're an artful look at public transit in cities around the world, from Berlin to San Francisco. They're beautiful and hypnotizing—you might find yourself day dreaming of navigating the system in Tokyo, which looks totally confusing and also have everything written in Japanese. Or maybe you prefer the system in Barcelona, which spreads beautifully across the page. They're all gorgeous in their own ways, and each would definitely encounter some primo people watching.
