Judge in Apple vs. Samsung Case Gets Fed Up and Orders Attorneys To Shut Up and Get Things Done Already [Apple Vs. Samsung]

Image
Aug 12, 2012 7:00 PM   After endless back and forth between Apple and Samsung attorneys over what the jury should and shouldn't be told, U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh has gotten fed up and ordered them to meet face to face and start hashing things out. For real. Up until now, each company has been blaming the other for impeding the process of meeting and coming to some kind of agreement regarding joint jury instructions. Now Judge Koh's order will force them to sit down, shut up, stop pointing fingers, and get this thing done. According to Foss Patents, the order reads as follows: "The Court is disappointed by the parties' respective reports regarding their meet and confer efforts on final jury instructions. Lead trial counsel shall meet and confer in person today and file joint and disputed final jury instructions by Monday, August 13, 2012 at 8 a.m." We'll have to wait and see if this straightens anything out. Both parties seem pretty intent on squabbling....

Guy Orders TV from Amazon, Gets Giant Assault Rifle Instead [Guns On The Internet]

Aug 8, 2012 3:01 PM   Talk about a dealzmodo! DC resident Seth Horvitz bought a new HDTV on Amazon, but when he opened the peculiarly not-TV-shaped box, he found a $2,000 Sig Sauer SIG716 semi-automatic rifle instead, DCist reports. A mistake has been made. Assault rifles are completely illegal in Washington, but that didn't stop the accidental delivery. Transporting a weapon into DC is also completely illegal. Apparently, the third party Amazon seller who shipped out the 37-inch, 7.62 X 51 mm NATO caliber rifle intended it to hit a gun dealer in Pennsylvania. Not some guy in DC. Cops confiscated the gun and got it the hell out of there, so things turned out okay—but what if this weapon, described by Sig Sauer as "the rifle of choice when you require the power of a larger caliber carbine," had been mailed to a kid? Or, you know, a criminal? It's easy enough to buy a gun online—now they're just showing up at your door for no reason. [DCist] View the original art...

Google Stops Taking Orders for 16GB Nexus 7

Demand for Google’s 7-inch Nexus 7 tablet seems to have well exceeded the tech giant’s expectations. Last week, Google posted a message to its online store saying that shipments of the 16GB model were delayed one to two weeks. Now, the store has stopped taking orders altogether. Those who want to purchase the $249 version of the tablet are told to sign up to be notified by e-mail when it is back in stock. The 16GB version is also sold out at GameStop, Kmart, Sam’s Club, Office Depot, Staples, B&H, Best Buy in Canada and, according to The Guardian , Tesco in te UK. The only place to get the device online at this point may be eBay. Google is still accepting orders for the 8GB version however, which costs $199. The 7-inch, Asus-built tablet, which began shipping earlier this month, is the first to run the latest version of Android, codename Jelly Bean. It has a 1280×800 HD display (216 ppi) and a quad-core processor. It has received widely positive reviews from the press — our own Pe...
