Jul 31, 2012 11:40 AM   Just as the streets were crowded with crazy contraptions as man made the transition from the horse drawn carriage to the automobile, the same seems to be happening with the glacially slow transition to electric vehicles. The Segway set the pace, and this Tribey electric trike follows suit as another eco-friendly way to break your neck. At its core the Tribey is basically a recumbent trike outfitted with an electric drivetrain, but in its default configuration it's designed to be ridden while standing—like a skateboard or a surfboard. An optional kit can convert the Tribey into a more traditional recumbent trike that can be ridden while sitting, but where's the fun in that? On a single charge it has a range of about 18 miles, but that number is presumably reduced depending on if the Tribey is ridden at its max speed of 25 mph, and how heavy the rider is. Jul 26, 2012 7:58 PM   Hey New York, look out of the window and you will see something similar to this coming towards you: a straight wall of dark atmospheric mayhem traveling at high speed, with wind gusts as hugh as 90 miles (145 kilometers) per hour. The technical name of this storm is a derecho . It can cause the same damage of a powerful tornado but, unlike tornadoes, they do not swirl. They just go straight ahead , hence its spanish name. This amazing photo shows the one that occurred on June 29, which was very similar to the one arriving now to New York. But that doesn't have to be the case, as the Marrs Cycles demonstrates with its beautiful M-1 e-bike that looks like a cross between an old style bicycle and a modern Harley Davidson chopper. With its smallest lithium battery pack the M-1 has a range of about 20 miles with a top speed of 20 mph. The bike could actually go faster than that, but it's hamstrung by US laws that limit the speeds of electric bicycles. And while the M-1 seems to be the perfect eco-friendly commuter, like the Segway, it's unfortunately burdened with an incredibly hefty price tag. The bikes start at $7,000 which can also get you a decent used car, so their popularity will probably be limited to eco-minded types with plenty of disposable income. In 2012, she certainly made sure it didn't happen again. Although Elizabeth Beisel took first in the 400IM, Leverenz captured second by a remarkable margin, leaving open water for the third-place finisher, who touched over four seconds behind. "I was ready to do this and ready to go," Leverenz said post-race. "I remember in 2008, I was in the lane next to Elizabeth and was telling her congratulations [for making the Olympics]....
