Barnes And Noble Just Priced Its Nooks To Move [Tablets]

Image
Aug 12, 2012 11:00 AM   Whether it's to prepare for a new line, to get ready for impending Kindles, or try and compete with Google's Nexus 7, Barnes and Noble has cut the prices on its three most expensive, most tablet-y Nooks. The seven-inch, Android-based Nook Tablets are seeing the biggest discount. The 16GB model, originally $249 is now $199, and the 8GB model, orignally $199, has dropped down to $179. Joining the club on the lower end, the Nook Color is also $20 cheaper, moving from its original price of $169 to $149. The prices of their more standard e-readers, on the other hand, remain untouched. What brought this on is anybody's guess, but we've got a pretty good feeling the new Kindles are imminent. If they are, it's probably not the best time to buy a Nook. At least not without waiting a few days to see what shakes out. Why Lenovo Believes in Windows 8 Tablets - Even if Acer Doesn’t

Image
Just hours after Acer’s CEO complained that Microsoft’s Surface tablet would generate a “negative impact” on the tablet market, Lenovo announced its own entrant to the Surface market, the ThinkPad Tablet 2. Clearly, Lenovo sees a market for a Windows 8 tablet that Acer does not. But what? Business users, most likely. “It appears the Lenovo is targeting business users and is shipping with an Intel processor,” Michael Gartenberg, a mobile analyst with Gartner, noted. “It’s also worth noting the digitizer is an extra add on.” In fact, the digitizer - the optional digital pen that Microsoft will support with Windows 8, and Lenovo has chosen to include as an option for the Tablet 2 - is just one of a number of differentiating features that separate the Tablet 2 from Microsoft’s Surface. Campbell Kan, Acer’s president for personal computer global operations, helped open the debate this week by telling the Financial Times that it is considering alternatives to Windows 8. “If Microsoft… is g...

Turn Your Swag On With Soulja Boy's Bewildering Branded Tablet [Tablets]

Image
Jul 28, 2012 5:00 PM   If you're looking to pick up a tablet, but the iPad isn't weird enough for you, Soulja Boy has got you covered. The new Tiger Shark Soulja Boy Edition is just what you need to puzzle and disgust your friends. Apparently trying to apply his utter rap genius to tablet endorsement, Soulja Boy has lent his name and likeness to the 7-inch Takova Android tab because someone seems to think that might help it sell. That said, at a $599 price point, it's not exactly the best deal on the market, but it does come with an FM radio tuner. If you're a Soulja Boy fan, what more could you possibly ask for? Besides maybe a better taste in music. Google's Stopped Selling 16GB Nexus 7 Tablets Because They're Too Popular [Nexus 7]

Image
Jul 22, 2012 12:49 PM   Google's Nexus 7 tablet is so popular that sales had to be suspended to try to catch up with demand. Units that were ordered up until last week will be delivered on time. The shortage comes because Google was taken totally off guard by how popular the 16GB model would be. It had expected the $200 8GB model to be the big seller. That hasn't happened, though. Instead, the $250 16GB model has been a massive, surprising success. This will probably be a minor setback at worst for Google and the Nexus 7. But hopefully it's also a wakeup call for Google and its competitors that the battle to catch the iPad isn't just a race to the bottom.
