If Fonts Had Voices They Would Sound Like This [Video]

Image
Aug 10, 2012 9:00 PM   In this hilarious video, Jonathan Garcia of The Minute Vlog gave voices to fonts. It's eerily on point—I always imagined Arial to be a pompous, stuffy guy with an English accent and Comic Sans to be a numbnut. But I want more! What would Futura sound like? Gotham? I want all fonts to have voices now. I won't be able to unhear and unsee this anymore. Would Your Rather Wear a Computer on Your Face or Your Body? [Video]

Image
Aug 2, 2012 5:00 PM   When it comes to interacting with computers in unorthodox ways, Google Glasses are the first thing that come to mind. But it's not the only concept. There's also the computer which is integrated into our clothing. We've fitness and health concepts that can provide bio-feedback, and others which can control your MP3s. But what about a fully programmable shirt? Sure that concept is a bit show-offy and ridiculous, but what if you had a jacket that could display notifications on its sleeve? I'd much rather be seen wearing that instead of a pair of Google Glasses. What about you? Would You Buy This Freak Egg Carton? [Unedited]

Image
A Hungarian designer completely rethought egg packing with Egg Box, a simple, modern carton. Only problem is, we can't decide if it's terrible or perfection. The single stackable piece of microwaved cardboard has ellipse cut-outs where the eggs go, and it supposedly protects the fragile orbs while letting you inspect them for cracks without having to open a bunch of styrofoam crates. It's pretty lovely, too. But Gizmodo staff was skeptical of its effectiveness. Here's the reaction from our chat room: Leslie H this egg crate? wish you were here! Joe does it work? because I really think that would last about 5 mins in a grocery bag J.D. L. according to the guy they interview it does Andrew L. I thought my eggs would be more inclined to break in that Brent R. it only holds six eggs? J.D. L. oh that Leslie H. i dont need many eggs Joe Yeah, I'm with Leslie on that Harry S. yeah the prevailing carton model takes inpiration from the arch, hallmark of roman archi...

Would You Buy This iPhone Prototype? [Chatroom]

Image
Aug 1, 2012 11:00 AM   We've seen plenty of iPhone and iPad prototypes as this legal battle against Samsung unfolds. But most of them were left prototypes for a reason—visually speaking. However, this latest one unearthed by the Verge caught my eye in a different way. Apple revealed the tidbit yesterday that the iPhone was birthed from a 2003 research project for the iPad. This CAD-rendered design—which shares A LOT in common with the iPad 1—seems to be part of that. But the hard edges along the face give this a different flair. Along with the curved metal back, this design looks positively space-age. It's also slightly reminiscent of the HTC One X. Imagine you never invested a second or a penny into a single smartphone ecosystem. If you saw this phone, would it be enough to convince you to buy it? For me, I think yes. If You Could Travel Back in Time, What Would You Change About Tech? [Chatroom]

Image
Jul 30, 2012 4:40 PM   Our comment guru Tony Kaye had an interesting question, so we figured we'd present it to you. Imagine you had the ability to travel back in time. Knowing what you know now, what would you make different in the tech world? What tech would you bring with you? Would you create Facebook before Facebook? Would you convince Reed Hastings never to attempt the Qwikster disaster? Would you terrify people with your iPod touch? Or maybe you'd subtly insert yourself into photos with people of the time? Let's get hypothetical. Not Even the Dark Knight Would Use This Insanely Dangerous Knife [Weapons]

Image
Jul 23, 2012 11:20 AM   Batman is best known for his wonderful arsenal of gadgets and weapons, but even with a suit of bulletproof body armor the caped crusader probably still wouldn't touch this scary-looking knife with a ten-foot batpole. Designed by Tom Anderson, the Interceptor looks like its creator started with a standard set of 'brass' knuckles but then went completely overboard with a series of fang-like blades. It's probably pretty effective at injuring an attacker, but from the looks of it, the person brandishing the blade might walk away with just as many cuts and abrasions. And where the hell are you supposed to safely carry this thing? You can get it here for about $56, but make sure you also pick up a case of Polysporin and bandages before you decide to wield it.
